James Madison University field hockey beat Bellarmine 4-1 on Friday, Oct. 9, at the JMU Field Hockey Complex in Harrisonburg, according to James Madison University Athletics. The Dukes led 2-0 after the first quarter and improved to 5-6 overall and 4-1 in Mid-American Conference play, the announcement said.

JMU scored twice in the opening quarter, doubling its total of first-half goals for the season before the game, according to the announcement. The Dukes added a goal in the third quarter and another in the fourth; Bellarmine scored once in the third.

James Madison recorded 18 shots, including 10 on goal, and had an 8-1 advantage in penalty corners, JMU Athletics reported. Bellarmine took five shots.

The Dukes are scheduled to play at Ohio on Friday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m., according to the JMU schedule included in the announcement.
