JMU Libraries says faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to “Crafting Local Commemorations: Performance as Commemoration and Día de los Muertos” on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in Memorial Hall. The announcement describes the event as an opportunity to build community, engage in dialogue and experience artistic expression related to Día de los Muertos as an environment for justice and reconciliation.

According to JMU Libraries, attendees can engage with the participatory art exhibit “Hostile Terrain 94” and experience performances by Lua Project, identified in the announcement as musicians, and poet Ariana Brown.

JMU Libraries asks participants to sign up ahead of time. The event is co-sponsored by the Furious Flower Poetry Center, the Center for Multicultural Student Services, JMU Student Life and JMU Libraries, according to the announcement.
