Pleasant Valley Elementary School has scheduled a book fair, a second-grade field trip and a Halloween dress-up day for the week of Oct. 26–30, according to the school’s newsletter published Oct. 26.

The school said report cards from the first grading period should be ready to view by Oct. 30. It also reported that students took part in the school year’s first house rally and that newcomers learned whether they belong to Eagle, Mountain, Red Oak or River house.

The Scholastic Book Fair is scheduled to run at Pleasant Valley from Oct. 23 through Nov. 2, according to the newsletter. Families are invited to visit on Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon for Books, Bagels and Bubbles, the school said. The newsletter also lists Oct. 23 as a teacher workday with no school for students.

The school lists a second-grade field trip for Oct. 29 and a Halloween dress-up day for Oct. 30. Costumes should not include masks, props or full-face paint, and should not interfere with learning or everyday activities, the newsletter said.

A candy-corn estimation fundraiser is scheduled for Oct. 26–30, according to the school. Each guess costs 50 cents, with a maximum of two guesses per student, and the closest guess wins. The school said proceeds from its fundraisers go back to students and the school community.

Pleasant Valley also asks families to consider contributing to a teacher dinner for parent-teacher conference day, Monday, Nov. 2, the newsletter said. For attendance questions, the school lists 540-434-4557 and pvesattendance@rockingham.k12.va.us as contact information. The newsletter says families should notify the school when a child is absent and keep a sick child home until fever-free for 24 hours without medication.
