What the measure does
Today, Virginia’s Constitution does not spell out a right to make decisions about reproductive care. This amendment would add that right, including decisions about pregnancy care, birth control, abortion, miscarriage care, and fertility care. It would let the state regulate abortion care late in pregnancy, but not when a doctor says it is needed for the pregnant person’s health or when the fetus cannot survive.
What the result means for Harrisonburg
A yes vote means the Constitution would protect decisions about reproductive care and protect people from punishment for those decisions, with the stated exception allowing some late-pregnancy rules.
What happens next
These results are unofficial. They become final when election officials certify them at the canvass, and totals can still change a little as remaining mailed and provisional ballots are counted.
