James Madison University’s Graduate School has established an advisory board to help guide graduate education and student preparation for the workforce, according to a Nov. 4 university announcement. The board’s first meeting was Oct. 20, the announcement said.
Graduate School Dean Linda Thomas and Interim Associate Dean Orlandrew Danzell established the board and serve as members, according to JMU. Its members bring varied professional backgrounds and are expected to advise the school on industry needs and the skills and knowledge graduates may need in changing job markets.
The board will discuss changes in professional fields, including the influence of emerging technologies, and how graduate education can prepare students to handle interdisciplinary, real-world situations, the announcement said. Members with experience in cybersecurity and technology can also help the school consider workforce needs and opportunities for students, JMU said.
Danzell said the school hopes the board’s work will contribute to more internship and employment opportunities for graduate students, according to the announcement. Thomas and Danzell hope the board will continue to evolve with students’ needs and the workforce, JMU said. Its long-term goal is to provide ongoing support as the Graduate School adapts its approach to graduate education, according to the university.
