James Madison University’s School of Art, Design and Art History will present a juried exhibition of work from its Fall 2026 Intermediate and Advanced Painting courses Nov. 9–20 in Duke Hall, Room 1031, according to the university’s announcement. A reception is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 5 p.m., the announcement said.
The exhibition features 15 artworks selected from applicants in course sections taught by painting faculty member Nieko McDaniel, JMU said. There are 33 students in the sections this semester, and the announcement said there was no limit on the number of works that could be selected from any one section.
Artists Jonathan Ege, a painting instructor at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Arlington, and Natalie Wadlington, an assistant professor of art in painting and drawing at Angelo State University, are serving as jurors, according to JMU.
The university said students’ coursework involves developing artwork around a topic of their choice and researching that topic. The works may use oil paint, mixed media, handmade pigments, fabricated tools and varied techniques, and may have unconventional shapes, the announcement said.
JMU lists its phone number as 540-568-6211.
